Because sometimes the best self care is getting away. Far away. Seriously, family vacations can be amazing, but friendcations CANNOT be underestimated!

One of the trips we hope to take is to New Orleans.  So we're having a drink created there - the Hurricane.

The Hurricane

When I was younger, I lived for a little while in San Antonio and learned about the Hurricane. It’s a classic DRANK drink that just helps you have a wicked good time. Apparently it started at Pat O’Brien’s bar in NOLA in the 1940s. I did not realize that Pat O’Brien isn’t the golf guy or the death metal guitarist, but just a normal restaurant guy from New Orleans. If you can’t find passionfruit juice at your normal grocery, check the natural food grocer. I found it at Sprout’s Farmers Market.

Ingredients-

  • 2 oz light rum

  • 2 oz dark rum

  • 2 oz passionfruit juice

  • 1 oz orange juice

  • 1/2 lime

  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup (Barsmith again!)

  • 1 tablespoon grenadine

  • Garnish with cherry and orange slice

Instructions-

Combine all the stuff in the shaker, add ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a hurricane glass. Garnish and enjoy. Sorry, I was out of cherries. I think Milly might have eaten them when I wasn’t looking.
